Online Prelicensing Course Study Tips

Thank you for choosing the Florida School of Insurance to fulfill your pre-licensing requirements!  We are committed to your success and want your self-study experience to be easy and fun!

The self-study program that you have selected is like no other being offered in the market today.  We have taken the teacher/student dialog directly from our classroom sessions and created an online course that delivers all the top quality instruction directly to your personal computer!  Using this method, we know that your learning experience will be as effective as if you were sitting through the class in person, and so we will begin just as we do with our classes.  Before getting started, make sure you review these study tips to get the most out of our online course:

  • Our instructors ONLY focus on subjects that you will find on the state exam.  Therefore, we recommend that you read each chapter of instruction from our online course in its entirety BEFORE you begin taking notes and referring to the study manual.  By by reading all of the online instruction first, you will know what to concentrate on when you refer to the book and begin taking notes.

  • The instructional method we have chosen for our online self-study course is a direct dialog between the instructor and the students that was taken from real classroom sessions.  Because of this approach, you will see the questions other students had about the material as they went through the course, as well as the instructor's response.  So if you have a question about the material or are confused about a subject we recommend that you continue reading, as you may find that another student asked the same question or that the instructor went on to give further examples that clarify the subject.  If you still have questions or need further clarification, you will be able to email the instructor, or fax or call our office and we will be happy to assist you.

  • At the beginning of each chapter we have identified for you the key terms to focus on as you read the online instruction.  To maximize the benefit of this tool, we suggest that you create flashcards for each of those key terms.  After reading the chapter, go back and put explanations and examples on the backs of the flashcards so you can refer to them while you are reviewing.  Often times, the explanations and examples the instructor gives are easier to understand and remember than what is offered in the study manual.

  • Remember to use your sense of humor as you are completing the course.  Many examples and explanations our instructors give are funny, because we want to make the class fun and the material easy to remember.  We take the success of our students very seriously, and to ensure that each of our students pass the state exam we often rely on humor so that the message is conveyed effectively and can be recalled easily come test-time.
